The Ice House Cultural Center and Arte Oak Cliff announce a
call for entries for the SUR DEL TRINIDAD (South of the Trinity)
Juried Art Exhibition.
ELIGIBILITY
An invitation to submit entries is extended to all visual artists
who live or have art studios south of the Trinity River
in the City of Dallas.
Artwork in all media will be considered. Only work completed
in the last three years will be eligible. Artwork must be ready
for installation (frames, wires, pedestals, etc.) at the time
of delivery or it will be declined. If a work of art requires
complex installation, the artist will be responsible for the
hanging/installation of the piece. The Gallery Manager will
coordinate and supervise such special installations with the
artist. For installations that require special equipment (electrical,
sound, visual, audio materials) or any other special hardware,
it will be the responsibility of the artist to supply such materials.
No artwork shall be removed from the gallery before the closing
date.
JURORS
A jury panel will select the artwork for this exhibition. The
three jurors for this years Sur del Trinidad show are:
SARAH JANE SEMRAD, Executive Director of La Reunion,
a non-profit artist residency program in Oak Cliff;
TINA MEDINA, Professor of Painting, Drawing and Art Appreciation
at Mountain View College;
JOSE VARGAS, Gallery Coordinator of the Ice House Cultural
Center, Art Photographer and Independent Curator.
ENTRIES
Please fill out the downloadable ENTRY
FORM and return it with your entries to the Ice House Cultural
Center. Artists can submit up to three entries. Only slides
and JPEG files will be accepted (all slides OR all JPEGs). Printed
images will not be reviewed. Three-dimensional art can be represented
with two slides/files: a general view and a detail view. Please
do not submit original slides. The Ice House Cultural Center
will not be responsible for damaged slides. All slides and CDs
will become the property of the Ice House Cultural Centers
Artist Registry.
Please label your entries with the following information:
Artist name, title of artwork, medium,
size and year completed. Please mark the top of your
slides with an arrow.
JPEG Files: Save all your
files in the root directory of your disk. Do not save your entries
as a Powerpoint presentation or any other software-dependent
format. Name your files sequentially and using your last name
as the filename. For example, if your last name is Hernandez,
name your files HERNANDEZ1.JPG, HERNANDEZ2.JPG and HERNANDEZ3.JPG.
Make sure your filenames match the information on your entry
form. Files should be no greater than 1.5 MB in size.
ENTRY FEE
Artists can submit up to three entries. A non-refundable entry
fee of $10 will be paid to the Bath House Cultural Center Advisory
Council, the exhibition co-sponsor.
SCHEDULE
Deadline for submission of entries/slides:
Slides must be RECEIVED by 5 PM on Saturday, July 1, 2006 This
is not a "postmark" deadline. Entries received after
the deadline will be disqualified. Entries can be hand-delivered
during gallery hours.
Selection notification: July 8, 2006
Delivery of accepted artwork to IHCC: Saturday, July
15, 2006 (3-6 PM)
Exhibition Dates: July 22-August 25, 2006
Reception: Saturday, July 22, 2006 (6-8 PM)
Art Pick Up: Saturday, August 26, 2006 (3-6 PM)
INSURANCE
The City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs will provide insurance
on most works of art, but only during the exhibition dates specified
in the Loan Agreement Form. In some cases, the City of Dallas
may refuse to insure certain pieces of art. Artists have the
option to purchase their own insurance separately. While on
exhibition, the artwork will be given all reasonable care.
Shipping/delivery of artwork to and from the Bath House is the
responsibility of the artist. The insurance coverage will not
be in effect during shipping of artwork.
SALES
The Bath House Cultural Center Advisory Council, the exhibition
co-sponsor, requests a 14% commission on all art sold during
the exhibition. Transactions for the purchase of artwork shall
be directly between the purchaser and the artist or his/her
official agent.

The Ice House Cultural Center part of the City of Dallas Office
of Cultural Affairs and provides a Latino - focused venue to
promote arts and cultural events that reflect the diversity
of Oak Cliff and the surrounding neighborhoods. Arte Oak Cliff
is a community- based non-profit organization in the Oak Cliff
area that works with the Ice House Cultural Center in presenting
a series of arts oriented programs that include exhibits, performances,
workshops and art residencies.
The Ice House Cultural Center. 1004 W. Page Street - Dallas,
Texas, 75208, located one block south of 12th Street at the
corner of Page and Polk Streets (MAPSCO page 54-F). The center
is open Tuesday to Friday from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and
Saturday from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. Closed Sunday and Monday.
