The Bath House Cultural Center presents Outside the Lines 5, a juried art exhibition, May 7-28, 2005. The exhibition features 27 local and regional artists and includes works in different media (painting, sculpture, photography, etchings and mixed media).

An opening reception and award ceremony with the artists will be held on Sunday, May 8, 2005 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The reception will also feature a live jazz concert by Brian Allen and Reuben Radding. The exhibition, the reception and the concert are free and open to the public.

OUTSIDE THE LINES 5 celebrates the transcendent, innovative and experimental work of local and regional visual artists.

ABOUT THE JURORS:

PHILLIP COLLINS is currently the Chief Curator at the African American Museum in Dallas. He is responsible for assisting the Director with the development and installation of all exhibitions and museum related education programs. Mr. Collins assists various departments with the implementation of education and public programs. Mr. Collins supervises and maintains the Museum’s Permanent Collection and is also responsible for creating partnerships with other local and state cultural institutions.

Before assuming his position at the African American Museum, Dallas, Mr. Collins was the McDermott Post-Graduate Education Intern at the Dallas Museum of Art, and eventually became a part the Education Department for nine years. His duties during that time included the development of outreach programs based on the Museum’s collection, and the training of volunteers to present the programs to students in private and public schools in the Dallas area.

ALEJANDRINA DREW has served as the General Manager of the Latino Cultural Center since September 2004. Ms. Drew has been involved in managing, programming and promoting art for over thirty years. Her previous position was as Director of the Arts and Culture Department for the City of El Paso, a post she held since 1987. Prior to that time, she served as Coordinator for Community Relations, Public Affairs Office of El Paso Community College and as Chancellor in Cultural Affairs for the Mexican Consulate in El Paso.

Ms. Drew has been a member of the board of Mid-America Arts Alliance, and has served on the boards of numerous state and national arts organizations. She has also been active in a large number of civic organizations in El Paso and was responsible for the creation of a language center for the Universidad Autónoma de Ciudad Juárez in México.

DAVID McCULLOUGH is a Dallas visual artist with an extensive record of exhibitions. He specializes in watercolor paintings, mixed media collages, and sculpture. Mr. McCullough has exhibited his work nationally and his art is included in some of the most prestigious public and private collections throughout the United States.

For the past ten years, Mr. McCullough has exhibited mainly throughout the southwest, drawing images and inspiration from nature. Mr. McCullough’s work is heavily influenced by his travels to Australia's outback, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, and Colorado.

Mr. McCullough’s beautiful paintings and new mixed media collages were included in the December 2004 exhibition hosted by the Bath House Cultural Center entitled “Wordless: Dialogues in Color.” The other artists featured in this three-person show were local painter Michael Olbaldeston and artist/instructor Juergen Strunck.
